DigitalHHR at Upcoming NAB Show

Dan and Wayne will both be participating in panels at the DCIA’s Cloud Computing Conference, which is being held as part of the upcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas on April 16.

The theme for the conference is “Advances in Content Security and Reliability.” Dan will part of a panel entitled “Privacy Issues, Reliability Questions, Security Concerns in the Cloud Computing Space” along with executives from Trend Micro, Numagic Consulting, Vobile, among others. Wayne’s panel, entitled “Years Ahead of Cloud Computing” will include executives from IBM Global Business Services, RedThorne Media, WSO2, Salesforce.com and others.

Wayne to Participate in Cloud Computing Panel at CES

As part of the DCIA’s “Content in the Cloud” conference, Wayne will take part in a panel discussion entitled “The Impact on Telecommunications Industries of Cloud Computing.” The discussion will focus on how cloud computing intiatives impact broadband network providers and their ability to manage their IP, utilize network resources and provision new services. Joining Wayne on the panel are executives from Acumen Solutions, CSG Systems, Level 3 Communications, Numagic Consulting, Scayl, Verizon Digital Media Services and Virtustream.

DCIA, the Distributed Computing Industry Association, is an international trade organization focused on commercial advancement of cloud computing and related technologies. “Content in the Cloud” is part of the 2012 International CES trade show, being held in Las Vegas from January 10 through 13. Matt and Dan to participate in Copyright Society panel on Cloud Computing

Matt Syrkin will be presenting and producing a panel for the New York Chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA titled “Copyright and Content in the Cloud” featuring Dan Schnapp as a moderator and other prominent practitioners. The panel, scheduled for September 15, 2011, will tackle the critical legal issues raised by the expansion of cloud computing and explore how stakeholders can balance the need to comply with evolving laws, standards and court decisions with the need to exploit new technological advancements that lead to improved services and enhanced user experiences.

As the public’s demand for “any content anywhere” grows, entertainment, media and technology companies are turning to the “cloud” for innovative ways to distribute and monetize content. The movement to the cloud, however, presents stakeholders with a familiar challenge: how to formulate new business models without infringing the rights of content owners. While recent case law provides some guidance for cloud service innovators, many issues regarding the copyright implications of storing, reproducing and transmitting content from the cloud remain unsettled. Now, a host of emerging cloud-based business models — from MP3tunes, Dar.fm and Zediva to Amazon CloudDrive, Apple’s iCloud and GoogleMusic — are testing the parameters of copyright law. This panel will focus on the critical legal issues raised by the expansion of cloud computing and explore how stakeholders can balance the need to comply with evolving laws, standards and court decisions with the need to exploit new technological advancements that lead to improved services and enhanced user experiences.

Firm’s Work in California Video Game Law Case Lauded

Matt to Speak on Panel at NYC Bar Center

Matt Syrkin will be speaking at the New York City Bar Center for Continuing Legal Education on the topic of Internet rights and technology, along with attorneys from Hunton & Williams LLP, Holland & Knight LLP, and Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, P.C. One of the most popular New York City Bar events, the conference, titled “Internet Rights and Technology: a Practical Legal Guide to Doing Business on the Internet”, will be held on September 28 and will focus on the ongoing challenges for lawyers in addressing the evolving legal landscape of the internet and new media.

DigitalHHR Team Represents BN Media in Acquisition of Beliefnet

In a recent, high-profile transaction, the Digital HHR team represented BN Media LLC in its acquisition of Beliefnet.com, the multi-faith and spirituality website, from News Corp. BN Media’s investors are also backers of Cross Bridge Media, a multimedia distributor of religious and charitable videos, and Affinity4, a marketing services firm focused on assisting non-profits in their fundraising efforts.

The transaction received prominent media coverage, including pieces in The Deal, American Lawyer and The New York Times.
